The city of Rio de Janeiro is the host for this catholic event in 2013. More than two million young people are
expected for the World Youth Day (WYD). There are many new elements in this year’s edition of JMJ. One of them is a huge “Stations of the Cross” pilgrimage, taking place at Copacabana Beach, on July 26th.
The path will be set from Copacabana Palace to Leme, with the distinguished presence of Pope Francis and more than 14 staircases surrounding Atlântica Avenue. More than 700 volunteers, as well as famous actors, will be representing the characters at the stations.
Pilgrims of various nationalities will be carrying the cross. The pilgrimage is directed by Ulysses Cruz, and set design is by Abel Gomes.
