Dated of the time of the Empire period, the Botanic Garden offers a delightful walk among bromeliads, orchids, violets and a whole infinity of Brazilian flora samples. There are more than 6.500 species, some of them on the verge of extinction, preserved out in the open and in greenhouses by the research center’s team, who is in charge of the maintenance of its 54 hectares of natural, artistic and historical beauty.
At Alto da Boa Vista, the Tijuca Forest reveals the beauty of a park with its spots, trails and waterfalls. A place much sought by sportsmen and families looking for some fun time, the forest is part of the Tijuca National Park, which joins distinctive areas such as Paineiras, Parque Lage and Pedra da Gávea, in its 3972 hectares of preserved nature, within the city limits.
A bit further away from the city, at the quarter of Guaratiba, the former residence of the renowned landscape artist Roberto Burle Marx, in its 350 thousand square meters, presents thousands of vegetable species, particularly tropical and semi tropical plants, as well as a vast collection of works, sculptures and paintings comprising the large collection at Burle Marx Estate.
