The victory by Unidos de Vila Isabel, the new Special Group 2013 champion, was celebrated by all. The school from Noel neighborhood thrilled the audiences with their themed samba, which told the life story of a Brazilian farmer. Their samba beat was an anthological one, created by André Diniz, Martinho da Vila, Arlindo Cruz, Tunico da Vila and Leonel. This is the third championship won by Vila Isabel, including 1988’s victory, with "Kizomba, a festa da raça" and 2006’s title, "Soy Loco por ti, América. A Vila Canta a Latinidade".
Aesthetically, Vila Isabel had the brilliance of “canavalesca” Rosa Magalhães on its side. She is the greatest champion in the history of samba, now with eight titles in her résumé. It was Rosa’s good taste that won the audiences over, along with the jurors. All components were also motivated and organized, with amazing performances in terms of clean singing and parade evolution. The “mestre-sala” and “porta-bandeira” couple (Julinho and Rute Alves), also got a perfect score.
